The Team
Pieter Booysen
Pieter Booysen age 55 was born in Harrismith.
He has lived in EL for 28 years and operated his own construction company for 23 years.
He enjoys outdoor activities and is at the age where travelling has become a necessity.
He wants to conquer Africa first and will on this trip traverse most Central & Southern African territories that he has not yet seen.
Jenny Booysen
Jenny Booysen is 54 and will be joining Pieter & Mike from Daar es Salam onwards.
Jenny is an Oncology Technologist and not a keen camper.
Jenny would rather have joined her daughter Michelle to holiday in Greece but was persuaded to join her husband on this trip.
Jenny & Pieter have 2 daughters Michelle & Charne.
Mike Meyer
Mike Meyer at age 73 is the oldest teenager in East London.
Mike is a retired business man having been in the motor trade and is well invested in property but has forgotten which buildings he owns.
Mike’s wife Leslie asked Pieter to please take Mike on this overland trip as Mike is bored at home after being retired for more than 10 years.
Mike wakes up in the morning and forgets what to do first and has the whole day in which to do nothing.
This trip will stimulate Mike to do more hereafter…., if he can find someone to take him along!
The Vehicle
The vehicle is a 2000 Pajero SW 3,5l diesel that was essentially equipped for an earlier overland trip through Botswana in 2005. It has all the bells and whistles that makes over landing comfortable. It is hoped that the Pajero name will live up to its expectations and cross all borders without problems.
Short Motivation and Team Objective
Having worked all the years and not yet retired, the Booysen’s intend to use this as a well deserved ‘long leave’ holiday break, Africa will present it challenges to them and they are keen to see how they will endure this experience together as a team building effort for future travel in Africa and abroad.
They are happy to have Mike Meyer on board and trust that he will enjoy the experience with them.
‘Team Halfway’ will join ‘Team Ivory’ and will not go beyond Tanzania when the other teams head for Germany Europe.
Go Half way Go!
Hi there Mike, good luck with your trip and wishing you a happy birthday today!!! Have a good one to you and the team and we will keep posted via the website. Regards, Jon de Beer and the Regent Insurance Team
