A real rainy day today with the forecasts for the next days also showing a lot of wet weather but the team got off to a good start after saying goodbye to their newly found friends from South Africa.

A nice drive was had through the most fertile region in Nigeria – the Benue state. This state was depleted of most of its population during the slave trade and consists of mainly rural areas with smaller villages of about 1000 to 2000 people.

Due to its climate and fertile grounds Benue state is regarded as the food basket of Nigeria and supplies about 70 % of Nigeria’s soybean production.

Animal farming is also being done on a big scale in this region and the roads are full with all sorts of vehicles transporting cattle , sheep , goats and chicken. The way these animals are transported leaves one speechless , there are trucks converted into double- deckers with 2 layers of cattle , small busses stuffed with goats and endless amount of cars carrying a small chicken farm on top of their roofes.

The police seem to turn a blind eye to this and are happy to receive a hand shake whenever these transports pass their checkpoints

Lipstick also encountered numerous police and army stops but passed them all without any hassles

On arrival in Calabar the most urgent issue was to find accommodation with a big TV screen to enable team Lipstick to view the semi-final game between Brazil and Germany.

And what a game it was… 7:1 for Germany the highest semi-final score ever and a tearful loss to the host country. Nigerians were fully behind Germany calling the German team “the soccer machine” and team Lipstick was wearing Bafana Shirts and as such being the only yellow shirt wearers celebrating the game………
