Team lipstick with Andre’s son David on board left Casablanca early morning on 16th June to drive through to Marrakech. The road taken was a beautiful highway and again it was decided to stick behind a recently speedy car so that any speed controlling officials might catch the car in front first.
This great plan however backfired in that the Moroccan police obviously is able to measure 2 cars at the same time and team Lipstick was waved down doing 138km/h in a 120 zone. The argumentation -that we thought 120 means miles- was not accepted but after establishing that the chief policeman’s brother has found great work in Frankfurt Germany and that Lipstick took off in Germany helped a lot in reducing the speed fine from 700 Dirhams to 300 Dirhams and after a few more jokes with the police officials team Lipstick proceeded along the way to Marrakech where they arrived around 4pm.
After having settled into the hotel the 3 decided that it would be great to watch the opening game for Germany in the world cup against Portugal and a big screen was found and the 4-0 win for Germany was duly celebrated.
Thereafter a visit to the old traditional markets in Marrakech was on the menu and this is indeed a place to be seen… The never ending shouting of the small traders in the market added a special atmosphere with the snake teasers letting their black cobras dance to their flute doing their own bit to amaze the members of team Lipstick.
A nice coffee bar was found on the rooftop of a tiny restaurant from where the happenings of the markets underneath where observed. For any visitor to Marrakech it is strongly recommended to pay a visit to this market – it really is an experience by itself.
Back to the hotel where a typically Moroccan meal was consumed completed the day and the team members retired for a good night’s rest.
